Speech on ‘Jatio Shok Dibos’ of Bangladesh

Honorable Guests, Respected Teachers, Dear Students, and Fellow Citizens,

Good morning to everyone present here. Today, we gather with heavy hearts to observe a solemn day in the history of our nation—the National Mourning Day of Bangladesh. This day, the 15th of August, marks the tragic assassination of the Father of our Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and most of his family in 1975. It is a day of profound sorrow and reflection for all of us.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was more than a leader; he was the visionary architect of Bangladesh’s independence. His tireless struggle and unwavering dedication to the cause of freedom and justice led to the birth of our beloved nation on the 16th of December, 1971. He gave voice to the aspirations of millions of Bengalis and led us through one of the most turbulent periods in our history.

On this day, 48 years ago, darkness fell upon our nation as Bangabandhu and his family were brutally taken from us. This heinous act was not just an attack on an individual or a family; it was an attack on the very soul of our nation. The grief we feel today is a testament to the profound impact Bangabandhu had on each of our lives and on the identity of Bangladesh.

As we mourn the loss of our great leader and his loved ones, it is important that we also honor his legacy by recommitting ourselves to the values he stood for—freedom, justice, equality, and unity. Bangabandhu’s vision for Bangladesh was that of a secular, inclusive, and prosperous nation where every citizen could live with dignity and respect.

Since gaining independence, our nation has faced numerous challenges, yet we have continued to make significant strides in various sectors. Our economy is growing, our social indicators are improving, and we are making our mark on the global stage. However, as we celebrate these achievements, we must never forget the sacrifices that made them possible.

On this National Mourning Day, let us take a moment to remember Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family. Let us reflect on the values and principles he championed and consider how we can embody those values in our own lives. It is through our collective effort and dedication that we can truly honor his memory.

To the young people here today, remember that you are the torchbearers of Bangabandhu’s vision. Educate yourselves, strive for excellence, and work towards a better Bangladesh. Let the legacy of Bangabandhu inspire you to contribute to the development of our nation, to fight against injustice, and to uphold the principles of democracy and human rights.

As we bow our heads in remembrance, let us also look forward with hope and determination. The spirit of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman lives on in our hearts and in the progress of our nation. By working together and staying true to his vision, we can build a Bangladesh that he would be proud of—a nation that stands tall in the face of adversity and continues to move forward on the path of peace and prosperity.

In conclusion, let us pledge to honor the memory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by fostering unity, promoting justice, and working tirelessly for the betterment of our beloved Bangladesh. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Joy Bangla! Joy Bangabandhu!

Thank you.
